DESIGN CONCEPTS

We will retain the main access points to the site to reduce financial strain and retain the existing pathways throughout the site.

There will be minimal car access (shown in purple) but the car access will be heavily pedestrianised to reduce the ecological impact of cars throughout the site.

Green and Blue Infrastracture

Screenshot 2020-11-13 at 11.58.26.png

The majority of the green infrastructure will be around Silo D. As this will attract more people, encouraging the land for wildlife and towards the water-edge.

Trees and planting, green roofs, green walls, walking routes will promote more green infrastructure on site.

We will lower the level of the docks edge as there is a lack of interaction with the water due to the height and a hard barrier between the pavement and the water.

We chose to keep the original Millennium Mills structure but compliment the original structure with a more modern and mixed use form.

We also chose to create offices in the shape of the existing land markings to create a more organic form.

Public Open Space

open%20space_edited.jpg

We have highlighted the main areas of open space.

The orange demonstrates active and social areas created through the mixed use Millennium Mills.

The green shows open and grassy areas including a bund and seating combination as well as a social and more park style open area to compliment the heritage aspect of Silo D.

Land Use

Commercial Units & Office Space will bring an economic activity to the area, open space will keep the area active during the night

Turn the Millennium Mills into a mixed-use building, providing cafes/restaurants on the ground floor

Residential to the east of the site will provide the area to become a new community-neighbourhood.

Post Covid-19

An extension of commercial open spaces will allow to have more social distance between the users and allow space for shops to open out into the streets

Pedestrian footpaths will accommodate cycling lanes, running tracks, playgrounds and an area for a promenade that are accommodating several activities simultaneously

Natural spaces support better mental health which means that providing parks will result in a safe social interaction at a distance

To accommodate quiet spaces for people to work in public buildings (for example, a library)
